The awards and honors keep piling up for some local radio personalities.
As expected, at least by me, Tommy Jett got the call that he will be inducted into the second class of the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame.
Jett wasn't so sure when we spoke two weeks ago, but he got the call on Saturday, or so it has been reported. Officials at the hall want to make an official announcement next week, so we'll have more from Jett and the names of the rest of the inductees later.
The awards ceremony will be May 4 in Nashville.
Meanwhile, over at the Clear Channel offices on Old Lee Highway, Gator Harrison, StyckMan and Cowboy Kyle together were honored with the Small Market Personality of the Year award by the Academy of Country Music.
US-101 did even better in the 2013 Country Radio Seminar Aircheck Awards. The station took top honors in all of the Small Market categories available to them.
• It was named Station of the Year.
• Jared Stehney was named Market Manager of the year.
• Bill "Dex" Poindexter won the Music Director award.
• Gator Harrison won the Operations Manager/Program Director award.
• Bill Poindexter and Melissa Turner won in the Personality/Show category.
James Howard and Luther Masingill will be on hand Saturday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hamilton Place mall signing copies of Howard's book, "My Life With Luther: A Glimpse of a Legendary American Broadcaster." Howard co-wrote the book with Holly Abernathy.
Masingill has been on the air in the same time slot on WDEF since 1941. For the last 18 years, Howard has been there beside him.
In the book, he shares the stories he's heard, the lessons he's learned and the experiences the two have shared over those years. It also contains about 180 images covering both careers.
Howard is fond of telling how Masingill helped him find his dog, as he has for hundreds of Chattanoogans over the years, when he was a young boy.
