A screening of the film "Girl Rising" has been set for 7:30 p.m. today, March 7, at the Gem Theater in Calhoun, Ga.
The feature film is a project of the social action campaign 10x10, created by an award-winning team of former ABC News journalists in association with The Documentary Group and Vulcan Productions. Their goal is to use the power of storytelling to deliver a message about how educating girls in developing nations will change the world.
Academy Award nominee Richard Robbins directed the film, which spotlights nine extraordinary girls from nine countries. Their stories are narrated by nine renowned actors, including Meryl Streep, Liam Neeson, Selma Hayek, Cate Blanchett, Kerry Washington, Alicia Keys and Selena Gomez.
Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the Gem's box office, 114 N. Wall St. Proceeds from such movie screenings nationwide will go toward advancing girls' education internationally, according to published reports.
