Project: Southern Champion Tray Wellness Center renovation
Owner: Southern Champion Tray
Location: 220 Compress St.
Size: 5,000 square feet
Contractor: Sexton Construction Corporation
Scope: This two-story wellness center will double in size and be open 24/7 to Southern Champion Tray's employees and their families. The facility will include racquetball and basketball courts, treadmills, cardio machines and strength training equipment. The company plans eventually to bring in a personal trainer and make the facility a one-stop-shop for employee health.
History: The building is almost 30 years old and this renovation has been in the works for several years. "We did a minor self-renovation several years ago with volunteers over the weekends where we pulled up old flooring and added a fresh coat of paint and once we did that, the usage really picked up," said Jonathan Pappas, safety and quality manager. "People are really excited about it. I think the employees will be chomping at the bit to use it."
Timeline: The construction is scheduled to be finished by April 1.
