Even before the ceremonial ribbon cutting, Erlanger East started treating patients in its new emergency center this morning.

The new 24/7 center houses 17 treatment rooms and a six-bed clinical decision observational unit. The department also provides full-service radiology, laboratory and respiratory services.

But what makes the department most special, officials say, is its location in East Brainerd.

"The most special thing about this location is the location," said Erlanger Facilities Administrator Michael Baker. "This is something the community here has needed."
