School with ties to Georgia megachurch to close

LITHONIA, Ga. — Church leaders say a school affiliated with the Georgia megachurch New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will close at the end of the school year.

School officials say the closing of Faith Community Christian Academy ends an era for one of Georgia’s premier Christian schools.

Faith Community Christian Academy once educated more than 200 students. School officials tell WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/XDVnvz) that the current enrollment is about 40 -- not enough to keep it economically viable.

The academy closed for a brief period in January 2012, but reopened shortly after with help from a new partnership with a cooperative agreement with Aurora Day School.
