Controversial eatery opens in Red Bank

The controversially-named Sofa King Juicy Burger opened Tuesday in Red Bank to packed crowds.

Sofa King drew cheers and jeers across the nation for its name, which owners say is in reference to a 45-foot sofa that wraps around the building, while others claim it references an unprintable profanity.

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the week, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, an employee confirmed. Sofa King will serve locally-sourced, grass-fed and hormone-free beef, as well as milkshakes cooled by liquid nitrogen.

Read House hires manager

Jen Prpich has been appointed general manager of the Sheraton Read House Hotel in downtown Chattanooga. Hospitality Ventures Management Group (HVMG), an Atlanta-based hotel management and ownership firm, took over management of the 241-room hotel in February and announced Tuesday that Prpich will head the Broad Street complex, which was built in 1927 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Prpich previously managed the both the 315-room Winston-Salem Marriott and 146-suite Embassy Suites Winston-Salem in Winston-Salem, NC.

Labor board appeals choices

The National Labor Relations Board said Tuesday it plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court a far-reaching decision that invalidated President Barack Obama's recess appointments to the agency.

The board is seeking to overturn a decision by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which ruled in January that Obama violated the Constitution when he bypassed the Senate to install three members to the labor board. In a statement, the board says it conferred with the Justice Department in deciding not to seek a rehearing before the full appeals court and take its appeal directly to the Supreme Court.
