D.C. colleagues to host first major fundraiser for Rep. Scott DesJarlais

NASHVILLE — U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais, R-Tenn., will hold his first major fundraiser next week in Washington with the help of powerful colleagues who are pitching in to help the Jasper physician.

A copy of the invitation for the March 19 fundraiser shows three House committee chairmen hosting the event. Tickets are $500 per person and $1,000 for political action committees.

Hosts are: Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who is chairman of the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight; Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., chairman of the House’s Committee on Education and the Workforce; and House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla.

“Special guests” include three Republican Study Committee chairmen: Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., a physician, as well as Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

DesJarlais faces a 2014 GOP challenge from state Sen. Jim Tracy, R-Shelbyville, and a likely challenge from state Rep. Joe Carr, R-Lacassas.
