A two-vehicle accident on Highway 153 in Hixson today claimed the life of a 29-year-old woman.

Northbound lanes of Highway 153 in the vicinity of the Walmart remain closed in the wake of the wreck.

The Chattanooga Police Department reported that a maroon Chevrolet traveling south on Highway 153 apparently started to skid into the northbound lanes where it collided with a tractor trailer and then overturned.

A release from the police department said a 35-year-old man in the Chevrolet was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the woman was killed.

The driver of the tractor trailer wasn’t injured, police said.

The release said the reason for the apparent skidding of the Chevrolet is unknown and that the investigation is continuing.

Earlier, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office had reported in a release that northbound traffic was being diverted through the parking area of the Walmart after the crash. Southbound traffic had been slowed, the release said.
