The thousands of motorists and spectators who've made the Fort Oglethorpe Cruise-In popular each summer will head in a different direction this year.
Rather than assembling on LaFayette Road downtown, participants will congregate for the first time Saturday, March 16, at the Gateway Business Center and Mall on Cloud Springs Road. Open to all car, truck and motorcycle enthusiasts, the cruise-in will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. the third Saturday of each month through October.
The family-friendly event features concessions, live music, kids activities and door prizes. In addition to checking out the cars on display, visitors to the cruise-in may shop at Gateway businesses.
There is no charge to show off a ride, and swap-meet vendors can set up for $10.
Proceeds from a 50/50 raffle will help a different charity each month. The Center for HOPE, which provides Christian counseling services and a food pantry, has been selected as the first beneficiary this season.
Gateway Mall can be reached from I-75. From Exit 353, head south on Cloud Springs Road for about 200 yards. The mall is on the right.
