DeKalb Sheriff’s Office investigates reports of home invasion, shots fired during Fyffe, Ala., house fire

The DeKalb (Ala.) County Sheriff’s Office has reported three people, including two children, were taken to a medical center Thursday after a fire at the home of the Scotty Wayne Baker family in Fyffe, Ala.

Baker was able to get two children out of the house during the fire, but all three were taken to the Highland Medical Center for smoke inhalation and burns.

Baker and his older son were then taken to UAB for treatment and observation while the other child is with his mother.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said his office has under investigation reports of a home invasion and shots being fired during the fire.

“I am so thankful that this family is alive and recovering at this time, Harris said. “The circumstances could have been much worse. Mr. Baker did a good job of protecting his family”
