Update: Chattanooga City Councilman Peter Murphy said this afternoon that he plans to sue over the Hamilton County Election Commission not calling for a runoff in his race for the District 9 seat.
Hamilton County Election Commission Attorney Chris Clem told District 9 Councilman Peter Murphy today the councilman only had two options: accept the results of the election or sue.
“Holding a press conference and demanding the election commission reconsider is not a valid option for you,” Clem wrote in an email to Murphy.
Murphy held a news conference Monday demanding the election commission hold a runoff in the District 9 race, which was decided by six votes with Yusuf Hakeem the winner. But the election commission has said it made a decision last week and it will stand.
