Memorial Hospital is one of three major downtown hospitals.Memorial Health Care System will take part in the Livestrong Foundation Community Impact Project that involves an online voting program through March 28.
A news release said the project will provide funding to organizations to put into effect programs that have shown success in the lives of those affected by cancer.
Memorial Health Care System is among hundreds of organizations still in contention for the Advanced Certification for Palliative Care award.
"Memorial Hospital offers a dedicated palliative care team to meet the needs of those with complex medical diagnosis such as cancer," Christine Dominguez, Palliative Care Coordinator, said. "We provide 24/7 availability for such issues as developing goals of therapy, advanced directives, symptom management, and a holistic approach to the patient and their families."
Livestrong Foundation was founded in 1997 by Lance Armstrong, who earlier this year stepped down as chairman in the wake of dopping allegations in connection with his professional cycling career.
