A thief broke into country singer Lauren Alaina's car Sunday as it was parked near the Florida Monument at Chickamauga Battlefield.

"My understanding was she was doing a bike ride," said Todd Roeder, chief ranger for the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.

Roeder couldn't immediately say Tuesday what items were taken from Alaina's car, since another ranger was still completing the report.

"We reached out to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department to assist us," Roeder said.

No other car break-ins were reported Sunday, he said.

Roeder said the battlefield experience a rash of car burglaries in 2012.

"We try and tell our visitors, don't leave purses and valuables in plain sight," he said. Roeder recommends that visitors stash items in the trunk before they enter the park - not after they park.

"[Burglars] may be in the parking lot watching you do that," he said.

Alaina is the Rossville, Ga., native who launched a country music career after being runner-up in 2010 on TV's "American Idol" show.
