Fishing
• Hixson resident and fishing guide Rogne Brown continued his recent record-setting run on Chickamauga Lake by winning the Walmart Bass Fishing League Volunteer Division tournament there Saturday with five fish totaling 40 pounds, 14 ounces. That the all-time heaviest single-day total in BFL competition -- by more than 4 pounds -- but it was more than 3 pounds short of the single-day Chickamauga record Brown set with Tim Saylor two weeks earlier. Brown also had the big fish of 11-12, adding $595 to his first-place prize of $4,271. "It was absolutely incredible. I can't even explain it. It's been incredible here the past five weeks or so," Brown said in a BFL release. Andy Lusk of Cleveland was second with 31-0, good for $2,136, and Walmart pro Wesley Strader of Spring City was fourth with 28-10. Shaun Lusk of Soddy-Daisy and Daniel Morgan of Dayton tied for sixth at 27-3, and Charleston's Thomas Helton and Ooltewah's Adam Dysart were ninth and 10th with 24-11 and 24-9. Dayton's David Perron was ninth among the co-anglers with 17-7.
Golf
• The Lee University men's golf team finished fifth out 16 teams in the Gold field of the 32-team Camp LeJeune Intercollegiate tournament Sunday in North Carolina. Oglethorpe won by 17 strokes with a 54-hole 843, and Lee's 870 was one shot out of fourth. Matt Emery shot 216 and Florian Loutre shot 218 with a final-day 74 for the Flames, who got 220s from Hunter Vest and Taylor Davis and a 221 from JB Eksteen.
• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team is in 11th place in the 18-team Briar's Creek Invitational tournament at Johns Isle, S.C., after the first round Monday. The Mocs shot a collective 319, 14 shots behind leader Coastal Carolina but only four behind fifth-place Indiana, with Isabella Loza tied for ninth individually at 76. Agathe Sauzon shot 79 and Emily McLennan, Mette Kryger and Jordan Britt shot 82.
VOLLEYBALL
• East Hamilton's Tori Pierce and Ringgold's Anna Marie Dykes recently signed volleyball scholarship papers with first-year program Dalton State University. "It is far enough from home for me to feel independent and on my own, but close enough to stay near my friends and family," Pierce said in a Dalton State release. "I was also super excited to be a part of a brand-new athletic program." Pierce also is the head coach of a Special Olympics volleyball team that earned a spot in the Tennessee state tournament in May. She has a 3.7 grade point average and plans to major in education. Dykes, who was on Ringgold's track and field team as a sophomore and finished third in the Class AAA state meet in the high jump, also was an honor student in high school and is in her freshman year at Dalton State. She said she wasn't originally planning on continuing her athletic career in college. "When I heard that we were getting a team, I really wanted to pick it back up because I missed it a lot," Dykes said in a DSC release. "I tried out and [coach Bruna Langner] told me I made it. I was more excited than ever."
Baseball
• David Lockwood went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, including one in the ninth inning, as Covenant College avenged a home loss Friday to Georgia Gwinnett with a two-day-delayed 13-12 win at the Lawrenceville school Monday. Sterling Witt and Paul Phillips each homered, singled and drove in three runs for Covenant (16-4), and K.C. Simons was 2-for-4 with four runs scored. Will Cleland was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
Lacrosse
• Sewanee's Olivia Vietor and Anna Morrow were the Southern Athletic Association women's lacrosse players of the week for matches through Sunday. They're the second pair of Tigers to sweep the honors this season. Senior captain Vietor had six goals and four assists and netted 83.3 percent of her shots in a 3-0 week for the Tigers, and Morrow led them with nine ground balls, six caused turnovers and five draw controls as they outscored their opponents 50-15.
Softball
• Motlow College beat Cleveland State 14-6 in a rain-delayed TCCAA softball game Sunday as Shelby Webb hit a two-run homer in the first inning, Ashley Williams had an RBI single and a two-run double, Makenzie Hopkins also had a two-run double and Kelli Bruning had two RBI hits. Sydney Howell, Meghan Allen and Amber Covington homered and Maura Ditto had a two-run single for Cleveland State (6-13, 3-10).
