New boundary fence going up at Y-12 complex in Oak Ridge

Thursday, March 28, 2013

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The National Nuclear Security Administration today announced the boundary fence at the Y-12 National Security Complex along Scarboro Road will be extended.

The new fencing is expected to be in place by April 4, a news release states.

The fence is being put up primarily to restrict public access to U.S. government property in front of the entrance sign and along the side of New Hope Center, according to the release from the nuclear security administration.

"Events of the past several months have shown that there is a greater threat of trespassing on the site, and the costs for responding to this threat are increasing." the release states. "Y-12 is taking conservative and appropriate measures to make such illegal actions more difficult."

New Hope Center will be behind the fence, but public access will continue during regular working hours, the release states.
