The Walker County Sheriff’s office cleared the downtown LaFayette courthouse after finding a soft pack cooler located outside the building.
But in actuality it was a container for someone’s dinner. A man being supervised by the state probation office was attending a mandatory meeting at the courthouse and forgot his cooler.
The cooler was first discovered around 11:20 a.m. today, next to a pull over jacket, said Sheriff Steve Wilson.
“Out of abundance of caution,” Wilson said in a prepared statement that the sheriff’s office evacuated the area up to 300 feet around the building and called for a Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s explosive technician to come and examine the cooler.
Before the technician arrived, the sheriff’s office realized that there had been a class held by the State Probation Office in the building Tuesday evening and officers located the owner of the cooler and jacket, Wilson said.
When officers opened the cooler, it was empty.
