Billy Brindle of Calhoun, Ga., won the Walmart Bass Fishing League Choo Choo Division tournament last Saturday on Lake Guntersville with a five-fish limit totaling 29 pounds, 15 ounces, and Dalton's Jody Moore was the top co-angler with 27-3.
Brindle earned $6,000 for edging runner-up Jonathan Henry of Grant, Ala., by one ounce in the boater category. One of Brindle's was the tournament's "big fish" -- a 9-10 largemouth.
"The bass were suspending over the deeper hydrilla," Brindle said in an FLW Outdoors release. "I was fishing in 8 to 12 feet of water, but the fish were suspending 4 or 5 feet deep. These fish were post-spawn and definitely a little beat up."
Bryan Gregory of Fort Payne was fifth among the boaters with 23-8, and Ray Elmore of Calhoun was ninth with 22-1.
Moore got $2,000 for his co-angler triumph. Cliff Broadrick of Tullahoma was sixth with 19-9, Scottsboro's Waymon Maples was eighth with 18-5 and Calhoun's Jamie Mills was 10th with 17-7.
• Taylor Bolton and Parker Bacon of the UTC bass anglers club will be part of FLW College Fishing's Southeastern Conference Invitational Tournament on another Alabama lake, Wheeler, May 11-12.
Baylor School graduate Will Stansell will be in one of Tennessee Tech's three boats, and Dalton resident Tanner Parker will be on one of Georgia Southern's two teams.
