Many amateur cooks make their own salsa. A workshop at Ooltewah Nursery & Landscape Co., 5829 Main St., will show how to grow the ingredients.

No gardening experience is required for the one-day course, which is available either of two days: 10-11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, or 11 a.m.-noon Sunday, May 5.

There is no charge for the workshop, and discounts will be given on plants and materials purchased on-site. Participants may bring their own container (call for size requirements) or purchase one before the class starts.

"We'll munch some salsa and chips while planting, and everyone gets a great salsa recipe too," according to a news release.

Advance registration is not required, but organizers say RSVPs on the nursery's Facebook page are appreciated to help them plan.

Participants should wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty and bring gardening gloves. For more information, call 423-238-9775.
