Gulf South baseball tourney rained out

The six remaining teams in the Gulf South Conference baseball tournament never got a chance to take the field Saturday due to the heavy rainfall. When the event resumes is unclear because more rain is expected today.

Chattanooga Sports Committee president Tim Morgan said the tournament organizers will meet at AT&T Field early this morning to determine the field's condition and the next step for the tournament.

"We're evaluating all of our options right now," Morgan said Saturday afternoon. "[If the rain doesn't stop overnight] we're going to have to make some hard decisions."

Three games were scheduled for Saturday and two today, with the championship game slated for Monday. The Chattanooga Lookouts return home Tuesday, so the GSC tournament has to be done by Tuesday morning, Morgan said.

One possible solution could be to play out, when possible, the winner's bracket -- No. 5 seed Valdosta State and No. 6 seed West Alabama are the lone unbeatens and were to meet Saturday -- and declare the winner the tournament champion.
