EPB Fan Fund collecting donations to beat summer heat

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

photo Electric Power Board employees are buying hundreds of boxed fans to be distributed to those in need in July.

It will be too hot outside in no time, so EPB is restarting its 2013 Fan Fund, collecting donations to buy fans for families or people in need.

Summer heat can be dangerous for people without air conditioning - especially children, the elderly and people living with chronic health conditions.

When someone donates $20 to the Fan Fund, United Way 2-1-1 identifies local residents in need, EPB uses donations to buy fans from Ace Hardware at a special rate, and fans are delivered to families, according to a news release.

If you know of someone who may qualify for help from the fan fund, you can call (423) 265-8000 between May 3 and June 28.

Donations are accepted at www.epb.net/fanfund. Checks can also be mailed to EPB Marketing, P.O. Box 182255, Chattanooga, TN 37422. Make checks payable to EPB Fan Fund.
