MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Several thousand home brewers in Alabama are waiting to see if the governor will make their hobby legal.
The Alabama Senate gave final approval Tuesday night to a bill that will make Alabama the last state to pass a law legalizing home brewing. The bill passed the House earlier and now goes to the governor.
A member of the Right to Brew organization, Brant Warren, says they are hopeful because Gov. Robert Bentley has signed other liquor-related legislation.
The governor’s press secretary, Jennifer Ardis, says he will review the bill and then make a decision.
The bill allows the home brewing of 15 gallons of beer or wine every three months. Warren said that’s lower than most states allow, but it was necessary to get the bill passed.
