Southside series expands in May

Sunday, January 1, 1905

The May schedule for the Southside Casual Classics Concert Series offers a little something extra.

In addition to a two-part concert in its monthly, second-Monday slot, the series will offer another concert on May 27. Details on that show will be announced later.

The concert on Monday, May 13, will begin a half-hour earlier, at 7 p.m., with the St. Nicholas Recorder Consort. Founded and led by Carey Shinbaum, artist-in-residence at St. Nicholas School, the ensemble is composed of two students and a parent, who rotate between parts as the music demands. The group plays music arranged for multiple sizes of recorders, a flute-like woodwind instrument.

Following at 7:30 p.m. are Dr. Amanda Hyberger (soprano) and Dr. Ken Cardillo (guitar). Both are faculty members at Chattanooga State Community College. She is an assistant professor who teaches music appreciation, ear training and voice lessons. He is professor of music and chairman of the Department of Fine Arts. He teaches music theory, guitar and humanities. For details, visit www.southsidecasualclassics.weebly.com.
