It was a baseball recipe for disaster.

Silverdale Baptist Academy was gunning for the school's first boys' district championship in any sport, and Arts & Sciences was out of pitching.

It was Silverdale 29, CSAS 0 in 4 1/2 lengthy innings -- the fewest teams can play and still have an official game -- and the Seahawks had their District 5-A championship.

They're set now for Monday and will host District 6-A runner-up South Pittsburg at 5 p.m.

CSAS will travel to 6-A champion Marion County on Monday, most likely for a 7 p.m. EDT game.

"We just got beat by a football score," Patriots coach Rik Herrmann said. "What some of our guys didn't understand was that we won the one we had to win yesterday."

The Patriots (10-17) assured themselves of advancing in the postseason by upsetting and eliminating Boyd-Buchanan on Wednesday.

"We could have pitched one of our top two guys, but that would have left us in the same situation that we were in today," Herrmann said.

Eight Patriots took their turns on the mound and were victimized by walks, hit batsmen and a plethora of errors.

After SBA scored just one run in the first, the score jumped to 11-0 after two innings and 17-0 after three. The Seahawks, who began station-to-station running in the second and clearing the bench in the third, scored 12 more in the bottom of the fourth before pitcher Spencer Mossburg ended the misery by striking out the side in the Patriots' fifth-inning turn at the plate.

Mossburg had quite a day for himself, getting seven RBIs with two three-run homers and a bases-loaded walk. The senior also improved to 7-0 and struck out 10 of the 17 batters he faced.

He and his teammates never lost interest.

"It was the district championship, and we wanted to play to the best of our ability," Mossburg said.

Joey Szollosi and Colton Rogers also homered, driving in four runs apiece.

Every Seahawk in uniform got in the game, and most scored at least once.

"We just came out and did our job. There isn't really much more to it," Szollosi said.

"We've never won a district tournament before, so this is big for the program and the school," Seahawks coach Jonathan Adcock added. "It's an amazing win and I'm excited for these guys. We figured they had to be running out of pitching, playing four games in four days, but we still had to come up with the idea of taking nothing for granted."
