A man remained in stable condition Tuesday at Erlanger hospital after police said he shot a 20-year-old to death during a shootout last week.

Wendell Washington was sitting on the front porch of the Lupton City home he shared with his girlfriend when he was shot. He was taken to Erlanger hospital on May 5, where he was pronounced dead.

The man suspected of shooting him, who has a pending homicide charge, was also taken to the hospital for treatment of his wounds. Police have guarded the suspect's room, said Master Patrol Officer Nathan Hartwig.

The suspect's name has not been released by authorities. Charges were filed against him after gunshot residue tests were administered at the hospital, according to the report.

Authorities are not commenting on what led to the shooting.

Washington was shot four times in his left arm, twice in the back and once in his torso, diagrams in a Hamilton County Medical Examiner's report show.

A twitter post of Washington identified him as a Boone Heights Boy, a neighborhood group loosely associated with the Crips.

Year to date, Chattanooga police have investigated 11 homicides. Of those, eight people were killed in shootings. The average age of a fatal shooting victim this year is 24. All were black men.
