Lee University's Matt Emery, Vest NAIA All-America

Lee University junior Matt Emery from Frankin, Tenn., is an NAIA men's golf first-team All-American for the second straight year, and fellow Lee junior Hunter Vest from Walker Valley High School made the 2013 second team. Emery tied for 16th individually in leading the Flames to a program-high sixth-place finish at the national tournament last week in Salem, Ore., and Vest closed strong to finish 24th.

• The Lee women's golf team begins play today in the 72-hole NAIA national tournament at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb. The Lady Flames open the afternoon session from the 10th tee, along with Bellevue from Nebraska and Baker from Kansas. British Columbia's Thunderbirds are back to defend their 2012 title, and Savannah College of Art & Design also is in the field after finishing second by two strokes last year in Jackson, Tenn.

• Fourth seed Sue King of Chatsworth edged fifth-seeded Rochelle Weaver of Resaca, 1 up, in the first-flight quarterfinals Monday of the Georgia Senior Women's Match Play tournament at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton. In another matchup of area golfers, third-seeded Margaret Padgett of Calhoun defeated Ysleta Morgan of Cohutta 2 up in the fourth flight. King will face her flight's No. 1 seed, Ellen Connors of Sharpsburg, and Padgett will meet upset winner Bunny Guy of Newnan, a seventh seed, in today's semifinals.

Baseball

• Walker Valley High School first baseman Caleb Longley has signed to continue his baseball career at Cleveland State Community College, where his father served two stints as coach. Steve Longley was inducted this year in the school's first Hall of Fame Class. Caleb Longley was a three-year for the Mustangs and batted .379 with eight doubles and three home runs among his 36 hits this season. He had 105 hits, 29 doubles, six homers and 75 RBIs in his high school career. "Caleb is a really good hitter," Cougars coach Mike Policastro said in a program release. "I have been watching him since he started coming to our summer camps when he was 11 or 12 years old. He will be able to come in and handle college pitching right away. he has a tremendous passion to play and has worked hard at his craft. He is the type of player we want at Cleveland State."

Fishing

• Daniel Morgan of Dayton finished 10th in the Walmart Bass Fishing League Volunteer Division tournament Saturday on Douglas Lake with five keepers totaling 17 pounds, 6 ounces. The boater winner was Travis Lilly of Bluff City, who earned $3,545 for 24-12. Knoxville's Justin McGaha won the co-angler category with 14-5, good for $1,773.
