Lookouts win 5-4 on error in 11th

The Chattanooga Lookouts topped Tennessee 5-4 on an 11th-inning throwing error Tuesday night at AT&T Field after winning Monday on a wild pitch.

Touted Lookouts outfielder Yasiel Puig did not start Tuesday's game but entered in the sixth inning and recorded a single and a double, but he was out at third base when he tried to stretch that double with two out in the 10th inning. Puig was scratched from Monday's second game of a doubleheader, and he was in the batting cage when that game started and was sent to the clubhouse by manager Jody Reed.

"Today was a scheduled deal," Reed said. "I'm not saying that the second game of that doubleheader might have been."

Blake Smith started in right field Tuesday, and Brian Cavazos-Galvez came off the bench to replace Smith in left. Cavazos-Galvez launched a three-run home run to left in the first inning and had an RBI single to left in the fifth, the latter of which put Chattanooga (18-27) up 4-1.

"This is my role right now," Cavazos-Galvez said. "We have a really good outfield, and my job is to come in whenever I can and produce."

Puig signed a $42 million, seven-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers last June that included a $12 million signing bonus. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder hit .526 in 26 big-league spring training games in Arizona and is hitting .314 with six home runs and 24 RBIs in 32 games with the Lookouts.

Last month, Puig was removed from a game at Tennessee for what Reed has only called a "personal matter," and he was arrested for going 97 mph in a 50 mph zone on Amnicola Highway just two blocks from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Tuesday marked the first time Puig has missed consecutive starts this season while on the active roster. He missed more than a week in April with a sprained thumb.

Kyle Cofield made his first start pulled a hamstring in the bottom of the second inning while running from first to third. The Lookouts are off today before beginning a five-game series with Pensacola at AT&T Field on Thursday night at 7:15.
