Beach Blanket Movie Night at Chester Frost Park

Sunday, January 1, 1905

Organizers of the ninth annual Beach Blanket Movie Night aren't going to tell you the name of the film they'll be showing Friday, May 24.

But they will give you clues to this 2012 blockbuster. The film took in nearly $50 million in its first weekend in theaters, the biggest box-office opening ever for a Disney animated film, but you don't have to pay to see it.

Not a bad tradeoff.

Presented by the Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department, Beach Blanket Movie Night has become a tradition for many families over Memorial Day weekend.

Moviegoers are invited to bring chairs or blankets to spread out on the beach at Chester Frost Park, 2318 N. Gold Point Circle, in Hixson. Boaters are welcome, too, since the three-story screen can be seen from the water. Sound will be broadcast in FM transmission.

Licensing restrictions prohibit advertising the name of the movie, but it's about a video-game villain who wreaks havoc at the arcade when he sets out to become a good guy.

The movie begins at dark, but families are invited to come early to take part in games and activities. Concessions will be sold.
