Daniels to coach at Soddy-Daisy

When he was named to the all-city basketball team as a Soddy-Daisy senior, Reid Daniels wrote that his goal was to be a history teacher and successful basketball coach at his alma mater.

He now has that chance.

Principal John Maynard announced Tuesday that Daniels had been selected as the Trojans' basketball coach to replace Kevin Templeton.

"Reid has taught history and been the boys' assistant here for the past six years," Maynard said in making the announcement.

"I was so grateful when John Maynard saw fit to give me the opportunity to teach at my alma mater back in 2007, and now the chance to coach the same team that launched my own basketball career," Daniels said. "I have been truly humbled by the support I have received from several parents over the last several years, and the last couple of weeks in particular.

"We have a fantastic group of students at Soddy-Daisy, and they have been raised by a really supportive group of parents. I look forward to working with the boys to build a program here that reflects the ambitions of our student body. Soddy-Daisy has a long standing tradition of success both in the classroom and on athletic fields and courts."

The Trojans also will have a new girls' coach in Drew Lyness.
