The Brody Johnson Band will close out the 1890s Day Jamboree in Ringgold, Ga. Fireworks will follow the show Saturday.Ringgold, Ga., is throwing its annual street festival, 1890s Day Jamboree, starting Friday night, May 24, and continuing all day Saturday, May 25.
Everything you'd expect to find in a community party - parade, car show, bluegrass music and street vendors - is on tap at this family-friendly event. More than 100 food, arts and crafts vendors will be set up around downtown Ringgold, as well as three stages for weekend music.
The jamboree opens Friday night with gospel music and the annual 1890s Day pageant. Gospel acts Southern Heart and Heritage Quartet will perform on the Cleveland Street stage, while The Perrys, Voices Won, Hullender Family, Pipeline, Jordan Family Band and Heritage Quartet will sing from the Courthouse Stage.
Boys and girls from infants to age 18 are invited to register for the 1890s Day Queen (or King) title. Pam Womack, pageant chairwoman, said this year's event has eight age divisions with 23 titles to be awarded.
"It's a little hometown pageant. It's cute as can be, not 'Toddlers & Tiaras,'" she says of the program held in the Ringgold Depot.
Walk-ups can register at the depot from 3 to 5 p.m. before the pageant begins at 6 o'clock. There is a $40 entry fee, she said.
Saturday's festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a fiddle contest on the Courthouse Stage. The parade through downtown will step off at 11 a.m. Throughout Saturday, visitors can come and go at the Classic Car Cruise-In on the grounds of First Baptist Church, 7611 Nashville St.
There will be musical performances on the Cleveland Street Stage at 10 a.m., noon, 6 and 8 p.m. Seven acts will play on the Ringgold Depot stage at 12:30, 2, 3:15, 4, 5:30, 7 and 8:30 p.m.
The Brody Johnson Band will close out the celebration Saturday with a performance at 9 p.m. on the Courthouse Stage followed by a fireworks finale. Bring a blanket or folding chair, sit back and enjoy the show.
