Georgia standoff ends with armed man in custody

A stand-off between law enforcement and an armed man near Lyerly, Ga., ended shortly after 8 p.m. today when the suspect was taken into custody, according to Chattooga County radio station AM 1180.

Walker County officers were among the law enforcement involved, but that department declined to give any details.

"We sent some of our S.W.A.T. team down," said a Walker County dispatcher.

According to the radio station, the man reportedly had a deer rifle and was firing random shots at his home on Highway 114 with an innocent individual inside.

Traffic was routed away from a section of the Highway while deputies tried to talk the man into surrendering.

Summerville Police, Hays State Prison K9 Units and others were called on to assist in the standoff, the radio station reported.

There were no injuries.
