On Saturday, June 1, Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park will join the American Hiking Society in celebrating National Trails Day by sponsoring a Work & Play Day at Cloudland Canyon State Park in Rising Fawn, Ga.

The day will begin with a four-hour work session on one of the newest additions, the Cloudland Connector Trail, which is being constructed in cooperation with the Lula Lake Land Trust. Once completed, the connector will join the regional trail system into the Great Eastern Trail, an 1,800-mile trail from Alabama to New York.

Workers should arrive by 8:30 a.m. at the park office, 122 Cloudland Canyon State Park Road. Participants do not have to pay the parking fee, and first-timers will receive a T-shirt. Tools and training will be provided, but participants may bring their own gloves, loppers and trimmers.

After work, a free appreciation lunch will be served. Participants then can take part in their favorite fun activities at the park, including hiking, biking and disc golf.

To ensure enough lunch and volunteer leaders, RSVP at CloudlandCanyon.org.
