Film club screens 'Upstream Color' (June 2)

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Chattanooga film club Mise En Scenesters will screen the "mind-bending" sci-fi film "Upstream Color" at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave.

MES founder/programmer Chris Dortch says the second feature from writer/director/editor/producer/star Shane Carruth is considered "one of the most unique and visionary films of 2013."

The film premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival. It centers on a man (Carruth) and woman (Amy Seimetz), whose lives and behaviors are affected by a complex parasite, without them even knowing it. The parasite has a three-stage life cycle in which it passes from humans to pigs to orchids, according to an online synopsis.

"This is one you really want to experience in a theatrical setting," Dortch says in a news release. "You will want to talk about it as soon as you see it, and we're honestly looking forward to the conversations."

Tickets are $5. Proceeds go directly to the filmmaker.
