A 40-year-old man was arrested after a police chase resulted in a crash on I-24 this morning.
East Ridge Police pursued Lovell Lightner around 7 a.m. after a report of a theft of a lawn mower and other lawn care items on Delaware Avenue.
Police attempted a traffic stop on Lightner, but he fled and drove against the flow of traffic, down an I-24 east bound exit ramp.
While traveling west in the east bound lanes, Lightner crashed around 7:10 a.m. and then exited his vehicle and fled on foot .
When officers attempted to take him into custody, he fought with police and delivered an elbow strike to an officer's face, according to a news release.
Lightner faces multiple pending charges including multiple theft charges, felony evading arrest, misdemeanor evading arrest, assault on police, resisting arrest, aggravated burglary, and driving on a suspended license.
Lightner will be scheduled to appear in East Ridge Court on June 18, 2013.
