Jacobson heads Thrive 55 group

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee executive Dan Jacobson has been named chairman of the Thrive 2055 coordinating committee.

Jacobson, vice president of properties and corporate services at the Chattanooga-based health insurer, will oversee the second year of work on the 16-county, three-state regional growth plan. He replaces Brian Anderson, who heads the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce. The 40-year planning panel, which has a $3 million budget, is expected to produce action plans for the region by 2015. It's said to be the first such initiative nationally to include parts of three states - Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

Unum among best employers

Unum Group ranks third among large life and health insurers in the 2013 Best Places to Work in Insurance recognition from Business Insurance magazine. The Chattanooga-based insurance giant was previously recognized on similar Best Places to Work for its subsidiary Colonial Life business in South Carolina and Unum in Maine.

"These awards are especially meaningful because they weigh heavily on what our employees say about the company," said Marie Clements, Unum's assistant vice president of human resources.
