Kitty catastrophe leaves South Pittsburg, Tenn., mayor bleeding

South Pittsburg, Tenn., Mayor Jane Dawkins spent part of Saturday morning at the emergency room, after she and Snowball, her cat, got tangled up in the recliner.

"It's just one of those crazy things at one of those crazy times of night," Dawkins said. "It happened about 4:30 [Saturday morning.]"

Snowball tried to jump up and join Dawkins in the recliner, but she didn't quite make it. Trying to save herself, Snowball sank her front claws into the first thing available - Dawkins' legs.

Dawkins said she couldn't quite stop the bleeding at the scratch sites, so she went to the emergency room, where the wounds were bandaged up and doctors administered two shots and put her on a week of antibiotics.

"It was just a fluke," Dawkins said Saturday. "[Snowball] wasn't doing anything mean."

Dawkins expects to be fine. She attended a car show fundraiser in South Pittsburg on Saturday afternoon. She said it was more embarrassing than anything.
