TULLAHOMA, Tenn. - Transportation officials say repairs to Tennessee Route 16 on Keith Springs Mountain in Franklin County should be complete in a few weeks.

The highway, which carries about 800 vehicles a day, was heavily damaged by a rockslide near mile 18 in March and was closed until May.

Tennessee Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn told the Tullahoma News that the $2.7 million project was on schedule to be completed in less than two months.

"We are very pleased that this project is nearing completion, and that this area of State Route 16 has been made safer for the traveling public," she said. "Barring unforeseen circumstances, the project should be completed by the end of this year."

Flynn said TDOT knew there was potential for a rockslide potential and had begun work in December 2012. The rockslide happened while work was ongoing.

After the slide was cleaned up, the road partially reopened and has allowed vehicles to pass through one way at a time as the rockfall mitigation project continues.
