TROY, Ala. - Authorities arrested an Alabama man Saturday and charged him with shooting his two teenage sons, and killing one of them, following an argument with his wife.

Sammy D. Jackson was jailed in Pike County on charges of murder and attempted murder, WAKA-TV reported. Sheriff Russell Thomas said the suspect had been fighting with his wife at their mobile home when he went after his sons with a shotgun.

"There had been an argument last night between the husband and wife that carried over to the morning," Thomas said. "This morning, the father took a 12-guage shotgun and moved to the rear of the trailer where he fatally shot his 18-year-old son. He then shot his 16-year-old son who escaped through an open window, which probably saved his life."

The slain teenager was identified as Sammy Deandre Jackson. The sheriff said he'd watched just watched the Goshen High School football player in a Friday night playoff game against Sweet Water, the Troy Messenger reported (http://bit.ly/19OJVTi).

Jackson's younger son, whose name was not immediately released, escaped after being shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said his injuries were not considered life threatening.

Jackson was being held Saturday on $150,000 bond. It was not known if Jackson had an attorney.

The sheriff said investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what led to the shooting. He said the elder Jackson and his wife had a history of domestic problems.

"But you never dream that it comes to this," Thomas said.
