UTC professor accused of DUI
Chattanooga police arrested UTC professor Richard Wilson on a charge of driving under the influence Thursday night.
Wilson, who has been with the university since 1971, is a professor of political science, public administration and nonprofit management. He served as the Hamilton County Election chief from 1977 to 1984, according to his website.
According to a police affidavit, Wilson was pulled over for a traffic stop at 9:50 p.m. after his tan GMC pickup truck was seen sitting at a Wilcox Boulevard green light for an "unreasonable" amount of time.
The officer on duty arrested Wilson after observing that he had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, as well as an unsteady posture.
Wilson refused consent for a Breathalyzer test, but was served with a blood search warrant at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. He faces charges of driving under the influence, driving without a license, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving across the center line.
Wilson's bail was set at $1,000. He will appear in court Dec. 2.
Man fatally shot during robbery
A man was shot and fatally wounded during a robbery attempt in Catoosa County, Ga., Monday afternoon.
Two men were reportedly involved in a robbery attempt on Post Oak Road in Ringgold, Ga., when the suspects entered a residence through the back door. The homeowner shot once at them, hitting one suspect in the neck.
The suspects were able to escape, but were located by police on Boynton Road.
The injured man reportedly died in a hospital soon after he arrived.
Police would not identify anyone involved Monday night.
Man charged with stabbing
The Red Bank Police Department has arrested Samuel Cromwell Rice, 22, and charged him with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of Robert McBride on Sunday.
Police responded to reports of a stabbing at 107 Goodson Ave. and reported finding McBride in a parking space. He had two stab wounds to his back.
McBride alleged he had been stabbed by Rice, but said he didn't know why. He was taken to a local hospital.
Late in the afternoon, officers returned to the Goodson Avenue address after the suspect had called 911 asking for medical assistance. A news release said officers found the suspect had a cut to his left hand and was taken for treatment.
Later he was arrested, charged with attempted murder and is being held on a $150,000 bond at the Hamilton County Jail.
