Yoga can fight stress

Americans are accustomed to dealing with heavy amounts of stress on a day-to-day basis. Whether the root cause is the national stress brought on by the temporary halt in government service or the dilemmas any given person has in her own respective work place, we all fall victim to high levels of stress and the repercussions of such anxiety.

Chattanooga is blessed with many central yoga studios that can serve as both a sanctuary for your meditation and a gym for your workout.

While going on a run or doing an intense weightlifting series can boost your energy level and release some of the pent up worries in your head, they can also lead to your body becoming even more worn down. Whereas in yoga, you are able to target the muscles that are holding the highest amount of built up tension which simultaneously clears your mind of any looming concerns.

If every person took one hour of each day to take care of themselves, they would in turn be maintaining a more sound relationship between the body and the mind, which results in the nourishment of healthier relationships.

Komen race empowers patients

The Susan G. Komen race for the cure is to celebrate, empower, and to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of mortality in women. In 2012 more than 200,000 new cases were reported to the American Cancer Society. Statistics show one out of five people know someone who is currently battling cancer, survived, or has died from cancer.

Early detection is always the best defense though self-examinations or mammograms. But everyone knows a good offense is needed to win the game. The offenses, in many cases require surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.

By arming women and families with accurate information provided by the many resource centers here in the Scenic City increases the rate of survival. One life saved is one family saved.

Turn your heart away from money

What is the money in your wallet worth? Truly it is just ink and paper.

The value is what we place on it, or, in international eyes, the value is based on the economic stability of respective countries.

What we need to understand is that money will not always be worth what we expect it to be.

Instead we need to be valuable as people in society.

Stop placing value on something abstract and turn that value on ourselves. With the economic instability of recent affairs, it would seem most beneficial to understand that money is an invention of man, and real value comes from what we can contribute to society.
