The Covenant College Drama Association will present a journey into the world of mental disabilities with "Waiting for the Paint To Dry." The story of one man's struggle to protect his autistic brother opens with a preview performance tonight, Nov. 14.
Written and directed by Covenant alumna Kathryn Jenkins, the play illustrates the stresses of trying to balance personal life while caring for someone else and the heart-wrenching consequences of certain decisions.
In a news release, Jenkins says she hopes the show will help the audience develop compassion for those in difficult situations.
"They have tough choices to make," she says of characters Campbell and Ernest, "and the show helps develop some sympathy and empathy when they make some of the wrong choices."
Opening night for the production, which is primarily student-led, will mark the first show the Drama Association has produced in three years. Headed up by President Ann Jones, Covenant students have organized everything from set and lights to costuming and publicity.
"Waiting for the Paint To Dry" will continue the next two Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 15-16, with three evening performances and a closing-day matinee. Tickets are available at the door or may be reserved by phone or email.
