about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Canceling 60 minutes would be no great loss. I quit watching it following Steve Croft's interview with Obama, obviously scripted with softball questions. Andy Rooney was the last of those that reported the news without trying to create it and controversy. News that cannot be validated by a reliable totally separate source is suspect. The desire to be first with a news sound bite and later say "we were the first to break news on" is nothing more than seeking ratings and advertising dollars.

Mickey Mouse indeed. Lara Logan and the whole research team that supposedly worked on this story for every bit of an hour (oh sorry I meant a year) should be demoted to working at a local 'Eyewitness News' TV station reporting about kitty cats, car crashes and domestic disputes.

Does this makes Dylan Davies' book, published by Simon & Schuster, a division of CBS, suspect? Ya think!

Hmm...Then again, maybe the researchers were ex News Corp. employees.

From commondreams.org:

"It's now official: Seattle voters have now elected a socialist and member of the Occupy Seattle movement to the Seattle City Council, favoring a champion of a $15 minimum wage and tax on millionaires over a long-term Democrat incumbent.

"Kshama Sawant, a 41-year-old college economics professor and a champion of a $15 minimum wage and tax on millionaires, took a 50.3 percent lead over 16-year incumbent Richard Conlin's 49.4 percent.

"Conlin finally conceded on Friday night. Sawant, who trailed on election night November 5, has gained steadily as vote-by-mail ballots are continuing to be counted. “I don’t think socialism necessarily makes most people in Seattle afraid,” Conlin said during his concession statement.

"These exciting results show a majority of voters are fed up with the corporate politicians who have presided over the widening chasm between the super-rich and the rest of us," Sawant said in a statement.

"Sawant, who began her political career by challenging and losing to Washington state House Speaker Frank Chopp last year, ran as a proud socialist on a simple platform: a new millionaire’s tax to fund a public transit system, a $15-per-hour minimum wage and rent control for Seattle.

Sawant will join the council in January."

Sadly Dylan Davies is not the first person to lie when trying to spice things up when writing s book, talking to the press or giving campaign speeches.

Just like Hillary did in 2008 when running for President, when she said she came under sniper fire in Bosnia and of course video proved this was a huge lie.

Hillary also blamed the maker of the You Tube Mohammad video for the attack in Benghazi knowing damn well that was a lie. She then told Charles Woods the father of Tyrone Woods who was murdered in Benghazi that the administration would arrest and prosecute the maker of the You Tube Mohammad.

Obama also lied about the attack and blamed it on the YouTube video and continued to send out Susan Rice to continue this lie.

Yes Davies lied but there are other people who have spoken the truth and the White House and the State Department continue to stone wall congress.

What difference does it make.

"It's now official: Seattle voters have now elected a socialist and member of the Occupy Seattle movement to the Seattle City Council, favoring a champion of a $15 minimum wage and tax on millionaires over a long-term Democrat incumbent.

The first in 100 years and the first to get past the primaries in 22 years. Not a real good record in Seattle of all places.

"Kshama Sawant, a 41-year-old college economics professor and a champion of a $15 minimum wage and tax on millionaires, took a 50.3 percent lead over 16-year incumbent Richard Conlin's 49.4 percent.

She is the you of Seattle.

From Wiki:

Sawant is a Marxist, a feminist an activist in the Occupy movement, and a member of the Trotskyist political party Socialist Alternative, an affiliate of the Committee for a Workers' International.

She is a supporter of raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, implementing rent control, single-payer health care, protecting public sector unions from layoffs, instituting higher taxes on the wealthy to pay for public union jobs and services, using government to organize mass protests, a moratorium on deportations of illegal immigrants from Seattle and granting unconditional citizenship for all persons currently in the United States without citizenship. She opposes the E-Verify system.

Sawant opposes the Measures of Academic Progress test in public schools (racist - Pt) and has called for their boycott. Sawant has called for a revolt against student debt saying that "the laws of the rich are unenforceable if the working class refuses to obey those laws."

In previous campaigns she has advocated the nationalization of large Washington State corporations such as Boeing, Microsoft, and Amazon.com.

On the topic of public transit Sawant has advocated for expanding both bus and light rail capacity with a millionaire's tax and advocated for what she calls "transit justice" which calls for eliminating user fares, increasing services to the poor and not providing any more transit options to communities who "can afford other options" until that happens.

Sawant received no endorsements from sitting Council members

“Our task is far bigger than the repeal of a single law. We need to recognize what is at the root of racism, this hatred and fear of black people, of people of color, of poor people. The root cause of these blatantly unjust laws is the capitalist system itself … this system does not work for us. Racism is necessary for this oppressive system to exist. It prevents ordinary people from coming together of different races and turning their fire towards Wall Street, corporate politicians and the ruling elite as a whole … the bankers, the billionaires, the capitalists — they are the criminals of our society.“

This shows how clueless you knuckle-dragging righties are about what libs stand for or represent. You are so busy regurgitating your usual teabagger talking points, which have nothing to do with reality, that you don't even hear what we're saying or see where we're coming from. There is no liberal that I know and especially no liberal Democrat serving in office who thinks of Cuba or the old USSR as any kind of socialist or communist paradise. Yet you keep referring to either of them as if we libs are working feverishly to turn America into just such places. Cuba is a dictatorship, you jackasses. So was the USSR. There is/was nothing about them that even remotely resembles what we libs are calling for.

We now live in a fascist state, with corporations calling the shots and our politicians in their back pockets. You righties keep whining about how "far left" America has gone but you are so blind, deaf, and dumb to what's happening you can't even see that liberalism is not the cancer that is killing us but corporate favoritism and the iron hand of the military-industrial-corporatist complex. We do not have a democratic republic, we have an oligarchy, and you stupid, pea-brained imbeciles not only cannot see that, you are idolizing, kissing ass, and waging your little war for the very tyrants you should be opposing.

Just because things are going okay for you now and you weren't affected by the last recession like millions of other Americans were you think you must be doing something right and you are safe as long as you play by the rules. But you were just lucky the last time, and next time (and the next time is going to be far worse and it is just around the corner) you won't be so lucky and you're going to be in the same boat as the "moochers" and "takers" you scoff at now. You may be right but your reason for the next and more devastating downturn is not right. Unfortunately we don't have a hand full of people in congress and none in the administration that have a clue what to do when it comes to the economy. A government stimulus is short lived and over as soon as the money is spent. Governments attempt to manipulate and create an economy when the best thing they could do would be provide essential regulations, eliminate all the favoritism, incentives, subsidies and other exceptions to the tax code then establish a reasonable competitive tax rate and make no exceptions.

How foolish can people be to think any regulated cost a business has is not included in the price of their goods or services? The fact is a zero business tax would not reduce tax revenue it would put more spendable money in peoples hands, increase demand, create jobs and more tax revenue.

Government could increase taxes on the mega wealthy and it would not increase tax revenue, reduce the deficit or debt nor would it create jobs or help those needing it.

Faimon,

Your commentary: ” Do you have proof or is this your personal opinion based on the opinion in some publication? Most corporations play by the rules and try to avoid being involved in politics.” I’m sorry Fairmon, but that is incredibly naïve. Did you really say that? Is that really you?

” The fact is a zero business tax would not reduce tax revenue it would put more spendable money in people’s hands, increase demand, create jobs and more tax revenue.” That is THE VERY DEFINITION of ‘Trickle Down Economics’ and has been debunked countless times.

How about this budgetary idea from Bernie Sanders of the ”People's Republic of Vermont”? It will ‘raise revenue, reduce spending, and create jobs’. To quote from comrade Sanders: ”At a time when the middle class is disappearing, poverty is increasing and the gap between the rich and everyone else is growing wider, we demand that the federal budget not be balanced on the backs of the most vulnerable people in our country.”

”We demand a budget that puts millions of Americans back to work in decent paying jobs and ensures profitable corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share. We demand a budget that does not cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits.”

To wit:

Stop corporations from using offshore tax havens to avoid U.S. taxes.

Establish a Robin Hood tax on Wall Street speculators.

End tax breaks and subsidies for big oil, gas and coal companies.

Establish a progressive estate tax.

Tax capital gains and dividends the same as work.

Repeal all of the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax breaks for the top two percent.

Eliminate the cap on taxable income that goes into the Social Security Trust Fund.

Require Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices with the pharmaceutical industry.

Reduce unnecessary and wasteful spending at the Pentagon.

Establish a currency manipulation fee on China and other countries.

Sounds good to me.

OH! And speaking of the wealthy ‘paying their fair share, here’s a single question quiz.

”We’re going to close the unproductive tax loopholes that have allowed the truly wealthy to avoid paying ‘their fair share’. They sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying 10% of his salary – AND THAT’S CRAZY!”

Can you guess who's responsible for that class warfare - lefty commie quote?

I agree with the sentiment but the person making the statement has done nothing to change it. Many people confuse management income and that of the corporation. There is no way any SOB is worth what some CEO's and top level managers are paid, TVA CEO at 5.9 million is an example. It is defended by that is lower than the private sector pays. So the private sector over pays with ridiculous rates also. The trickle down theorist say those highly paid invest the money and that helps the economy. It does not and they are not the primary source of investments, that would be the mutual funds and individuals. Omitting all exceptions and establishing a set rate would do wonders for the economy although it would put a lot of accounting types out of work. Elimination of all exceptions for individuals and businesses would be the best thing to happen but we both know that would not get votes and contributions. Everyone should be able to file their taxes on one sheet. Individual show income, taxes due, taxes paid, delta. Businesses show total sales, total spent on materials to enable producing the goods or service, total spend for personnel to produce the goods or services, itemize other required cost, profit and taxes due or loss to carry over. Why must it be more complicated? The fairest tax would be on money spent with a probate to everyone which would further distribute wealth.

Hi Fairmon,

First of all, I didn’t say that. Saint Ronnie did.

‘Investment’ is not the sole engine of the economy and it’s not even primarily mutual funds. It is middle class spending and their demand for goods and services. That really isn’t debatable any more. The rich (job creators) don’t create jobs. ~[”Prosperity and jobs are the consequence of an eco-systemic feedback loop between customers and businesses. Only consumers can set in motion this virtuous cycle of increasing demand and hiring.”]

I’ve posted a TED video (I posted it once before) below by Nick Hanauer that was banned because it was ‘too politically controversial.’ Watch it at your leisure. It’s only about 6 minutes long. If you didn’t watch it before, I hope you do soon.

I don’t want to pick apart your post, but I will say this; it is contradictory – and includes a Trojan horse.
