DeKalb County (Ala.) corrections officer arrested

A corrections officer with the DeKalb County (Ala.) Detention Center has been arrested and charged with theft of property third degree.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office also reported that John Weston Culpepper, 28, of Dawson, Ala., has been terminated.

Culpepper was arrested after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office of Professional Responsibility received a complaint from a detainee at the center that $325 in cash was missing from his property after being booked at the center.

A joint investigation conducted by the ICE and DeKalb County Sheriff's Office led to the arrest and charge.

Culpepper has been booked into the detention center with a $1,500 bond.
