Tennessee's jobless rate was unchanged last month at 8.4 percent, or 1.1 percent above the comparable U.S. unemployment rate.

Tennessee added 33,200 jobs over the past year, growing employment by 1.2 percent from October 2012 to October 2013. But the gain in jobs was offset by the increase in the number of job seekers.

A year ago, unemployment in Tennessee was 7.8 percent, or 0.1 percent below the national rate at the time.

Tennessee Labor Commissioner Burns Taylor said the largest job increases last month in Tennessee occurred in trade, transportation and utilities, food services, and professional business services.
