Adam Mitchell reaches final stage of Q-School

Former McCallie School golfer Adam Mitchell changed his career path Friday.

The former University of Georgia player was the only one of four Chattanooga-area golfers who qualified for the final tournament in the 2013 Web.com Qualifying School.

Mitchell advanced by finishing in a tie for sixth place with a 10-under-par 278 at Shell Landing Golf Club in Gautier, Miss. The top 19 and ties from that site advanced to the final stage of Q-School, which will be held Dec. 12-17 at PGA West on the Stadium and Nicklaus Tour courses.

"I'm more relieved that it finally happened," said Mitchell, who earned limited status on the Web.com Tour by reaching the final stage. "I'm relieved that I got through. It's a great feeling. Obviously it's not over yet. There's still work left to be done."

At Plantation Preserve (Fla.) Golf Course and Club, former Rhea County golfer Hunter Green, former McCallie and UTC golfer Bryce Ledford and former Baylor School and UTC golfer Stephan Jaeger failed to advance.

Jaeger and Green were tied for 19th place heading into the final round Friday at the course where the top 20 would advance to the final stage. Green shot a 5-over 77 in the final round and Jaeger shot a 4 76.

"Obviously, I'm pretty disappointed," Jaeger said via cell phone. "There's no two ways around that. Especially after getting so close and having some status last year. It drains you a little bit."
