Strong winds expected across much of Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Strong winds were expected across much of Alabama, with a few gusts as high as 35 mph.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a wind advisory for central Alabama through 5 p.m. today.

The advisory covered several of the state's largest cities, including Anniston, Birmingham, Eufaula, Gadsden, Montgomery, Phenix City, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Tuskegee and Troy.

Forecasters expected sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with the higher gusts, which could make driving some vehicles difficult.
