Birmingham, Ala., family unharmed as home burns on Thanksgiving

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Thanksgiving almost turned deadly for one Birmingham family in the Wahouma neighborhood.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue officials tell AL.com that the family of six was at home Thursday evening in the 7100 block of Second Avenue North when they smelled smoke.

The family called 911 and was able to exit the home before a fire in the back of the house spread, causing considerable damage that includes a collapsed roof.

No injuries were reported.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
