The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. I presume that you meant this tongue-in-cheek, but there is a measure of truth to it. There is a relevant line in Hunger Games - Catching Fire, "remember who the enemy is!" When the rebellion comes, we will be fighting each other and both sides in the conflict will be serving the interest of our shared enemy.

Lower level thinkers do stupid things like go out in the dark with their gun when they are afraid of the dark. If it was daytime there would have been no threat perceived and the elderly gentleman would have been returned to his home to find what comfort he enjoyed there.

If this shooter did not have a gun would he have gone out in the dark to confront the suspected prowler? No, simply because he is afraid of the dark. Law enforcement was notified and in route so why the need to be so macho? STUPIDITY. Just like the jackhole who shot the teenager in Ringgold or Clay trying to politicize a situation that has little to do with the NRA.

The majority of this nation has little business owning firearms. Their reasons for ownership make no sense and most often cause tragedy to families and friends. Just the opposite of what the gun owner intended it be used for. The BoogieMan is not real people!

Remember, if you are afraid of the dark as many people are, stay inside where you have the option of turning on a light. In the case of the disgruntled old man in Ringgold who threatens neighbors and their pets with his firearm and shot the teenager, throw him in jail with the other tough guy idiots where he can find common ground with his fellow man. There he can live out his days swapping stories of how they threatened others with their guns. We don't need leftovers from the wild west left to roam in todays society. That goes for some in law enforcement too!

Poor ole PT, has to try to get something negative about the President in everything.

The real problem is there needs to be some kind of intelligence and psychological testing for gun ownership (paid for by the would-begun owner).

I guess a confused 70+ year old man is frightening in the dark to a guy carrying a loaded gun. But, as Joepulitzer said, you gotta protect yourself, we are attacked by armed bandits everyday. It isn't safe to walk on the streets night or day, especially in North GA...the commies and nazis are lurking at our door. The pussification, or sissification of America is well, well underway. Whether it's a big, fat baby of a football player whining about bullying in the locker room, or the bitching by liberals about guns.

Until liberals come up with a plan to remove or prevent all criminals from having a gun or a weapon of any kind, then they should shut up. Liberals are cowards and illogical. Leave law abiding citizens alone. Go after the criminals.

According to the NYTimes and the NPR, there is no "knockout game" going on. Carry a gun, and shoot them in the back as they run off after punching you, that's my solution.

Go after the criminals, and stop trying to criminalize and demonize those who need to protect themselves.

Yes, I miss those days of conservative utopianism when industries and foundries were free to dump their toxic waste into our streams, rivers, and lakes; and when our skies were so thick with pollution that you couldn't see any of the surrounding mountains from downtown Chattanooga, or you could barely breathe because of the stench. And how I wish that we could return to those pre-liberal days when the black people knew their place, in the backs of buses, and they stayed confined to their own communities and shops and restaurants; and women remained in the kitchen and didn't muck things up by voting or infiltrating our places of business, thinking that they have a "right" to work and earn equal pay just like a man. And old people died off early like they're supposed to because they didn't have Medicare or Social Security. Damn those liberals! One can only dream of the perfect world this could be now if the conservatives had had the good sense to round up all those commie libs way back then and shot 'em dead. Yes, one can only dream.

You mean like George Zimmerman was only "protecting" himself - by aggressively following Trayvon Martin and then shooting him dead after he (Zimmerman) turned a perfectly harmless situation into one of violent confrontation? Zimmerman, the poster boy for "Stand-your-ground," was recently arrested for carrying in his car a 12-guage shotgun, an AR-15, three handguns, and over 100 rounds of ammo. Dammit! You cops, leave him alone! He was no doubt on his way to carry out some good old fashioned American justice. He probably got wind of a gang of blacks wandering through a neighborhood drinking tea and eating Skittles and he was on his way to put 'em down and clean up the neighborhood. You go, Georgie boy!

Jesse, Obamacare is not anything close to the "knockout game." It might be a feeble or misguided attempt but nobody can really know for sure until we actually give it a chance to succeed or fail on its own merits. The trouble is, Republicans and conservatives have been hell-bent all along on shutting it down before it's even had a chance. They are afraid that it just might work and they know that if it does, then they will look worse than they already look (if it's possible for them to look any worse!) and the nation will be stuck with it, or something even more progressive down the road. Only a jaded, ideologically dwarfed Obama hater can claim that Obama merely wants to foist his brand of socialism on America. His intent was/is not to "knock out" those who already have insurance but to bring some relief to the millions of Americans who are without it. Obamacare might well be flawed and it most likely will not be the best answer, but at least he has made an attempt to do something about our broken system of health care, which is something that no Republican has ever even talked about, and no Republican is even talking about it now. All they want to do is dismantle Obamacare and go back to the same ol' same ol'.

Liberals always fail to mention that President Nixon signed the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 on Jan. 1, 1970 and the EPA was proposed by President Richard Nixon and began operation on December 2, 1970.

Nixon also signed The Clean Air Act Extension, into law and the Marine Mammal Protection Act and a few days later, he signed the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act. He also signed the Endangered Species Act on Dec. 28, 1973

The Safe Drinking Water Act which was proposed by Nixon and passed by Congress in 1974 but actually signed by President Gerald Ford.

So you can thank a Republican President for the start of the EPA

Let’s look at the Civil Rights Movement. Eisenhower was responsible for getting the 1957 Civil Rights Act and the 1960 Civil Rights Act pushed through. Eisenhower also established the Civil Rights Commission. Remember it was Eisenhower, not Truman, who fully desegregated the military.

It was Eisenhower who sent to the Military to Central High School to allow the nine black students to attend school because the Democrat Governor Orval Faubus refused to follow the Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. Education.

After the Supreme Court ruling of Brown v. Board of Education 99 members of Congress signed the Southern Manifesto denouncing the court’s ruling in Brown. Ninety-seven were Democrats, two were Republicans.

In the 1950’s Democrats were against education of blacks and in 2013 this hasn’t changed. Earlier this year it was reported that 80% of New York City high school graduates lack the basic skills of reading writing and math to attend community college. In Detroit it is reported 47% of its residents were functionally illiterate.

The federal government along with liberals and teachers unions are taking full control of the education provided to children and their goal is to keep people from being free of government dependency.

This is why Eric Holder and his DOJ would not be taking schools to court to stop voucher programs, and Obama stopped funding of the DC voucher program when he first took office.

Remember what Melissa Harris-Perry, PhD said on MSNBC

“We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion that these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities. Once it’s everybody’s responsibility and not just the households, then we can start making better investments.”

Liberals despise individual freedom and don’t care about quality of education. They care about control.

Eisenhower would not be accepted in the Republican Party of today. Nor would Nixon, at least not if he tried to do anything as liberal as he did when he was in office. You conservatives keep whining about how liberalism alone has created the mess we are in now, but then you go to great lengths to take credit for the liberal things that Republicans did in the past. You don't make any sense at all.

He talked the talk of a progressive all through his campaigns in 2008 and 2012 but he has never walked the walk. I don't know if he is afraid of standing up to the rich and powerful in the MIC which runs this country or he has just been on their side all along, but Obama is NOT a true progressive. Hell, even Obamacare, which is the most progressive thing he has succeeded in bringing about so far, was a conservative concept. Only you Obama haters have your panties in such a wad over the very thought of him being in office that you fail to see him for how conservative he really is. You have all gone so far to the right that anything even remotely left of center looks extreme to you.

I repeat: Obama is a sh!tty president. He is either a coward or a hypocrite. You radical righties (oh, pardon me, are an "independent moderate," yes? roo, in your 12:12pm post you blame all past injustices and environmental issues on conservatives and I was pointing out that is not true.

Regardless if you are democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, Libertarian, moderate etc. we all want clean air and water and the vast majority of businesses do comply with EPA laws. As you probably know failure to comply can be crippling to a company.

Now there are some who believe the EPA has become to powerful and will possibly shut down companies and have a negative impact on our economy with doing very little if any improvement to the environment.

I believe one of the biggest differences between conservatives and liberals was best stated by Friedrich Von Hayek:

"There is all the difference in the world between treating people equally and attempting to make them equal."

Most liberal believe everyone should be equal, even if that takes away from individual sovereignty.

I can't wait until President Hillary Clinton arrives.

Looks like some of your fellow Fleabaggers might not be so enamored with that prospect. They also don’t seem to think much of Obama after all.

By Ted Rall (Prominent Fleabagger Commentator)

Please stop the Hillary puffery. The last thing the country needs is a Hillary candidacy.

PrezHill would be bad for America, awful for Democrats and downright deadly to progressives — especially feminists.

Here, in an easy clip-and-take-to-the-primaries nutshell, is the non-vast-rightie-conspiracy case against Hillary:

1. Zero record of accomplishment.

Since 2009 we've seen what happens when we elect a president with charisma but minus a resume: weakness, waffling, national decline. Obama's signature/single accomplishment, the Affordable Care Act, embodies design-by-committee conception and autopilot execution.

Hillary's admirers have conflated her impressive list of jobs with actually having gotten things done. When you scratch the surface, however, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the woman has done little more than warm a series of comfy leather desk chairs. How has this career politician changed Americans' lives? Not in the least.

After sleazing her way into the Capitol as an out-of-state carpetbagger Senator Clinton wiled away the early 2000s as a slacker Senator. Clinton's legislative proposals were trivial and few. Her bargaining skills were so lousy that she couldn't find cosponsors for her tiny-bore bills.

Hillary cheerleaders brag that she logged nearly a million miles of air travel as Secretary of State. "She reminded the world that Woody Allen was right even when it comes to diplomacy:80 percent of success really is simply showing up,"

Hillary has had 20 years to shine. If she hasn't gotten anything accomplished in all that time, with all that power, why should we think she'll make a great president?

2. She's a terrible role model for women.

The real issue is that Hillary married her way into power. Sorry, Hillarites: there is nothing new here, no cracked glass ceilings. In a nation with more than 150 million women, it ought to be possible to find a president who got there on her own merits. Remember, it's not like Hillary did much with the remarkable opportunities she was given.

3. She's kind of dumb.

In 2003, Senator Clinton cast the most important vote of her life, in favor of invading Iraq. She claimed she "thought it was a vote to put inspectors back in" even though it was called the "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002".

The fact that she thought anyone would buy such ridiculous lies further indicates less than awesome intelligence.

Having a cynical political operator as president is bad. But I'll take a smart cynic over a dumb panderer.

This makes it look like Hillary cares about people. Of course we know how much Hillary really cares just ask the family members of the four Americans killed in Benghazi.

Speaking of Benghazi watch the Clintons place all of the blame on Obama and the media will carry her water for her.

Remember the media turned their back on Hillary in 2008 to get Obama elected they will now pay Hillary back by covering up all of her skeletons. They will vet her as well as they did Obama.

Jesse, speaking of Christie notice how the main stream media loves him? That should throw up a huge red flag as the media loved McCain and Romney as they knew these two would be the easiest opponents for the Democrats to beat.
