A six-hour drive home from the golf course is much more enjoyable when the van includes two championship trophies.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team won the Starmount Fall Classic in Greensboro, N.C., on Tuesday by two strokes.

The Mocs shot a 24-over-par 876 for 54 holes to defeat Campbell by two and third-place Maryland by eight strokes with sophomore Agathe Sauzon earning medalist honors with a 3-under 210.

"This is definitely better than driving back after coming in second without a trophy," UTC coach Colette Murray said over the phone. "A win is a win and we're happy. I don't think we could have played much worse. But we still won."

UTC owned a 10-shot lead after playing 36 holes Monday. The lead disappeared as Campbell tied the Mocs early Tuesday afternoon.

"We didn't get off to a good start and gave away the 10-shot lead," Murray said. "I don't know if they were looking at the leaderboards and got a little complacent. We'll go from here and get ready for the next one."

UTC senior Jordan Britt, who prepped at GPS and Signal Mountain, tied for fifth at 4-over 217, and sophomore Emily McLennan tied for 11th at 220.

"I just played better than everybody," Sauzon said. "It's just a really good feeling."

Flames fourth

Matt Emery tied for fourth individually with a 211 and Hunter Vest was sixth at 212 with 69s Tuesday as the Lee University men's golf team finished fourth out of 18 teams in the Aflac Cougar tournament at the Country Club of Columbus (Ga.).

Columbus State won with an 850 total, eight better than West Florida, with Georgia College & State at 863 and Lee at 864 with its third consecutive 288 round. The Flames' Taylor Davis tied for 25th at 220, and Shea Sylvester shot 223.

Dalton State fourth

In the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational men's tournament Monday and Tuesday at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Ga., Dalton State's first-year program tied for fourth at 592 in the 25-team field led by Oglethorpe at 576. DSC's Levi Nix tied for 13th at 147 and teammates Tyler Mitchell, Chase Jones, Thomas Rimel and Anthony D'Angelo shot 148, 149, 150 and 151.

Covenant tied for 18th at 624 and Sewanee was 21st at 633.
