ATHENS, Ala. - Athens police say a man has been charged with 22 counts of animal cruelty after he told investigators he's been killing kittens since July.

Police chief Floyd Johnson told WAFF-TV investigators responding to a call about kitten carcasses in late September found blood spattered on the walls in an area of Ronald Golden's home that he called "the cat room."

Authorities say Golden told police he was "angry at the world" and scoured Craigslist to find kittens that were up for sale.

Police say Golden told them he threw the kittens to the floor, stomped on them or strangled them.

Investigators found five dead kittens at the man's house.

Golden is undergoing a state mental health evaluation and is being held on $22,000 bond in the Limestone County jail.
