Works by career artists and artists for a day will be featured in separate events Sunday, Oct. 13, that raise funds for Wally's Friends, the area's low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

Regional artists will offer their feline works for sale in the inaugural The Art's Meow: Celebration of Community Cats, set for noon to 4 p.m. at Uptown Art, 2 Cherokee Blvd.

Funds raised from sales at the free event will be used exclusively for feral cat spays and neuters. Community, or feral, cats are felines that live on their own in urban areas.

According to Eileen Price, founder of Wally's Friends, there are a number of managed feral cat colonies in and around Chattanooga. Education booths at The Art's Meow will provide literature and other helpful information about the cats and the people who help them.

A painting party will follow at 4 p.m. Uptown owners Rona Hutchison and Kasie Lindley will give attendees step-by-step instructions to complete a painting of a modernistic cat. No talent is required, just a sense of whimsy. Cost is $35, and $10 will go toward the cause.

Also part of the day is a celebration of the Cat Clinic of Chattanooga's fifth birthday. PureSoda Works will supply drinks, and the animal health company Zoetis will donate ice cream. The Cat Clinic provides low-cost spays and neuters for various shelters and clinics in the area.
